Dr. Dan Oren, M.D.

Dr. Dan Oren is an internationally renowned researcher on Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut where he manages the Second Year Medical Student Psychiatry Module. Dr. Oren also serves as Medical Director in Neuroscience at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company Pharmaceutical Research Institute in Wallingford, Connecticut.

Dr. Oren’s research and clinical interests include seasonal, atypical, chronic and resistant depression, clinical psychopharmacology, light therapy, sleep disorders and circadian rhythm disturbances.

He has authored numerous scientific articles and book chapters, and co-wrote How to Beat Jet Lag: A Practical Guide for Air Travelers. Dr. Oren has received peer-reviewed and industry research grants from various foundations and granting agencies. He reviews for several scientific journals and granting agencies, and sits on the Editorial Boards for Chronobiology International. He is a former president of the Society for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms.

Dr. Oren attended Yale College and Yale School of Medicine, where he also completed residency training in psychiatry. Following a fellowship in the Clinical Psychobiology Branch of the Intramural Program of the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health, he subsequently worked at the FDA and as a faculty member and Director of the Mood Disorders Firm in the West Haven Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Yale Department of Psychiatry. He served as member and later as chair of the FDA Psychopharmacology Advisory Panel.
