Dr. Oscar Cuzzani, MD, D.Sc.

An ophthalmologist and Physician Scientist, he is presently a consultant and Ocular Director for QLT Inc. in Vancouver, BC.

Dr. Cuzzani received his MD and DSc. degrees from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has been a Research Fellow at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, a Visiting Scientist at the National Eye Institute where he participated in the Sorbinil Retinopathy Trial and the effect of antioxidants and blue light on macular degeneration. Dr. Cuzzani was also a fellow in Ocular Vascular Diseases at the University of Iowa, where he worked in the areas of ocular occlusive diseases, glaucoma and experimental glaucoma in Rhesus monkeys. In 1990 he worked at the Gimbel Eye Centre in Calgary, Alberta in clinical research and at the University of Calgary as a Clinical Lecturer and recently at the Centre for Innovative Technology, University of Calgary working in the area of ocular biomechanics. He is a cofounder of ERIC Technologies Corporation a company that commercializes ophthalmic medical devices.

Dr. Cuzzani is the recipient of two patents for a new vibration eye tonometer and authored several peer reviewed papers in the areas of retinal light toxicity and two book chapters on medical devices. His interests include eye pathology, ocular vascular diseases, macular degeneration, glaucoma and ocular biomechanics.
